The Wildlife Collection
The Wildlife Collection!
Welcome to a closer look at my latest artistic adventure: The Wildlife Collection! I have always had a deep love for painting animals, just as much as I love painting expansive and sweeping, surrealist landscapes. But recently, my approach to painting them has undergone a massive shift.
A Shift in Perspective
If you look back at my older, large-scale artworks—particularly the ‘Millennium Mythos trilogy’, you will often find animals woven into the scenes. However, they were usually painted as very tiny miniatures, placed there to give the vast landscapes a sense of massive scale and perspective. Occasionally, a larger creature like a bird flying into the foreground would make an appearance, but for the most part, they were small details in a much bigger world.
I decided I wanted to experiment and challenge myself: *Could I successfully take these creatures out of the vast landscapes and make them the absolute focal point of the painting?
Building the Collection
I have painted a fair amount of animal art over the years! Pieces like ‘Habitat’ (c. 2016/17, which has now sold) and ‘H2O, Heart of the Ocean’ (2018/19) were early steps in this direction. There are even a few pieces sitting in my main gallery—like; ‘Little Donkey’ (Sold) ‘Cygnet’, ‘Yellow Beach’, and ’Frog Chorus’, that could easily belong in this wild family.
But over the last two years, this desire to spotlight animals has steadily grown, culminating in this brand-new, dedicated collection.
Colour, Style, and Shine
When bringing this collection to life, I wanted the style to feel vibrant, bold, and a little bit magical. Here is what you can expect from these pieces:
Vibrant Palettes : I have focused heavily on rich, saturated colours to really make the animals pop against their surroundings.
Metallic Magic : I have incorporated metallic paints into these works, giving the backgrounds, leaves, and intricate details a beautiful shimmer that catches and reflects the light beautifully.
Intricate Details : By making the animals the focal point, I have been able to pour so much more detail into their fur, feathers, and expressive eyes.
I am so thrilled with how this experiment has turned out, and I hope you love welcoming these creatures into your home just as much as I loved painting them.
