Event Description:
Marking one of the earliest public viewings of JC Barber’s foundational work, this debut solo exhibition, titled ‘Life, The Universe and Everything,’ introduced local audiences to the highly detailed, visionary style that would come to define her multi-decade career. Held at the Maldon Public Library, the showcase featured pivotal early works exploring a mixture of reality and fantasy, including the heavily framed ‘A Secret Genesis Cycle’.
The exhibition was warmly received and garnered official press coverage, landing the front page of the ‘Essex Chronicle’s’ “GO!’ arts and leisure supplement. This milestone 2001 event laid the critical groundwork for Barber’s independent studio practice and the subsequent 25-year expansion of ‘The Millennium Mythos Trilogy’.
