Sketchbooks & Explorations

From The Archives

Welcome to my visual diary. This gallery is a dedicated space for raw exploration, featuring unique circular formats, panoramic views, and mixed canvas grains dictated by the ebb and flow of a working artist’s budget over the years. Spanning decades of work, these archives invite you to explore everything from early world-building experiments inspired by deep space, to intimate framed weather studies and a private collection of playful pieces created specifically for my family.

Step inside the sketchbook and you will find the true, unfiltered evolution of my art. This collection embraces the fun of retro pop-art, the raw honesty of emotional graffiti, and the fundamental practice of foundational nature studies. I have also opened the vault to share my beautiful abandoned pieces, my very first attempts at classical oil copies, and even a few lost artworks from my childhood roots. Enjoy this behind-the-scenes journey into my creative mind!

This non-infinito study captures that quiet, suspended moment at the platform, caught somewhere between arriving and moving on. It is a quick, atmospheric glimpse into a fleeting autumn journey.

Bath University, 2001: A Week on Campus

Back in 2001, I spent an unforgettable week on campus at Bath University for an Open University humanities course (where I proudly scored 100%!). While exploring the gorgeous city, including a visit to the historic Roman Baths, I couldn’t put my sketchpad down.

  • Top sketch: Drawn live while sitting on a hill opposite the striking Bath University amphitheatre. One of the professors loved it so much he even asked for a photocopy to pin up on the staffroom board!

  • Bottom sketch: Drawn from memory in my campus room, capturing the surrounding university buildings and streetscape... right up until my signature narrative mythos inevitably crept back in!

Originally a course toward counselling, that week ultimately cemented my choice to follow my true calling: full-time painting.

Other Studies, Lost & Random Artworks

Multiverse sketch from Millennium era. Pen, Pencil & Ink on Paper

Work never finished. Lost or Painted over

Oils, in a canvas sheet book, a copy from a photo I saw online

A very rare and personal childhood ‘Easter Bunny’ from when I was just 6 years old! Drawn at primary school. My mum kept this safe for years because my teacher specifically spoke to her about my artistic potential even back then!

‘Penguins’ From the Miniature Doodles Sketchbook

Hey God’ (Lost Work). I entered this into the prestigious Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition in 2010, alongside another piece that I sadly have no photographic record of at all. A proud RA reject, it is all a necessary part of the artistic journey!

Early Practice with Oils on Canvas

Oil on canvas copy of ‘Rough Sea at the Jetty’ by Jacob Van Ruisdael. c1997

Thank you so much for taking the time to explore my Sketchbooks & Explorations gallery! Ending on this piece feels incredibly fitting, as this copy of ‘Rough Sea at the Jetty’ by Jacob Van Ruisdael was one of my very first oil paintings. It holds a special place in my archives as the starting point of my 30-year artistic journey. I hope you enjoyed this raw, behind-the-scenes look into my creative evolution and the raw canvas of my mind.
